Dr. Nga Nguyen, recently received the award in recognition of her exemplary teaching in community-based medical education. She served as a medical student preceptor for the MHMR clinic in Angleton.

Drs. Hankins and Hirschfeld named top doctors for women
Dr. Gary Hankins, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, and Dr. Robert M.A. Hirschfeld, chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at UTMB, have both been named to the list of America’s top doctors for women in the November issue of Women’s Health. Only 16 physicians nationwide were included. Hankins is highly regarded for his work in high-risk pregnancy care and research; Hirschfeld is a leading expert on bipolar disorder and depression. Wagner receives prestigious national award
The American Psychiatric Association has recognized Dr. Karen Dineen Wagner, Marie B. Gale Centennial Professor in Psychiatry and vice chairwoman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences with its prestigious Blanche F. Ittleson Award for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Wagner receives the award for her research and publications about mood disorders in children and adolescents which have advanced evidence-based treatment in the field. Read more in Impact.

Psychology Today story features UTMB psychiatrist
Psychology Today cover"Bipolar disorder, involving moods that swing between the highs of mania and the lows of depression, is typically confused with everything from unipolar depression to schizophrenia to substance abuse, to borderline personality disorder, with just about all stops in between," according to "Wrestling with Bipolar Disorder," a story included in the current issue of Psychology Today. The article examines the misdiagnosis of  bipolar disorder, its pervasiveness in our society, and a shift away from antidepressants as a treatment for the disorder. Dr. Robert Hirschfeld, UTMB professor and chair of Psychiatry/Behavioral Sciences, is quoted extensively in the story, specifically regarding the depression aspect of bipolar disease, and how antidepressants are turning out to be "underwhelming in their ability to treat the depression." UTMB alumnus, longtime faculty member establishes psychiatry professorship
Dr. Robert M.A. Hirschfeld named inaugural recipient of Harry K. Davis, M.D. Professorship for Excellence in Psychiatric Medicine

Dr. Robert Hirschfeld and Dr. Valerie ParisiMAY 2, 2006--Dr. Robert M.A. Hirschfeld, professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been named the first recipient of the university’s Harry K. Davis, M.D. Professorship for Excellence in Psychiatric Medicine. Hirschfeld was awarded the endowed faculty position at the April 28 Titus Harris Society meeting at Moody Gardens in Galveston. Joan R. Hebeler, M.D. has been selected to receive the 2006 Texas Pediatric Society Sidney Kaliski Award of Merit for her outstanding contributions to the health and welfare of the children of Texas and TPS.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Fuller who will be receiving the Martin Luther King Award January 13th. 2006 at the Central Cultural Center located on 2627 Avenue M Galveston, Texas.
Dr. Michael Fuller has received the NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award 2006.

Karen Dineen Wagner, M.D.,Ph.D has been named a distinguished alumna of Stony Brook University School of Medicine in New York. She will be honored in November 2006 at a ceremony in Port Jefferson, N.Y.

Karen Dineen Wagner , M.D.,Ph.D. has been elected as been selected by her peers to be included in the Best Doctors in America 2005-2006. The Best Doctors in America database is a valued resource that contains the names and professional profiles of approximately 32,000 of the best doctors in the United Stats.

Karen Dineen Wagner, M.D.,Ph.D. has been appointed for a four year term to the National Advisory Mental Health Council of the National Institutes of Health ( 2002 - 2006 ).

Dr. Michael Stone, M.D. was awarded the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award - 2005.
The American Psychiatric Association and its Committee on Medical Education has selected Michael Stone, M.D. as a recipient of the 14th. Annual Nancy C.A. Roeske MD Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education - 2004.

Dr. Christopher Thomas, M.D. received the Senior Faculty Teaching Award - 2006.
